Blazing van sparks traffic misery for motorists on the A2

This was the dramatic moment a van burst into flames on the A2 near south-east London sparking delays between London and Kent.

Motorists driving between Dartford and Bexley faced severe delays tonight after the road was closed east bound at the A2018 Old Bexley Lane.

Pictures from the scene show a van, thought to be transporting beds, engulfed by flames.

London-based photographer and filmmaker Monty Strikes, who took the picture, told the Standard: “The heat was intense while traffic stood at a standstill waiting for the fire engines.”

The blaze started at around 5pm and caused the road to be closed until around 6.30pm by which time firefighters had extinguished the fire.
