UK police seize bitcoin worth £294 million in gang probe

The Metropolitan Police say they’ve seized two record hauls of cryptocurrency totalling £294 million - that’s over $400 million - as part of an investigation into money laundering.

Officers took £180 million of a crypto token, believed to be bitcoin, less than three weeks after making another £114 million seizure on June 24.

Some of the world’s biggest crime gangs are betting on crypto as a way to clean dirty cash in a bid to stay one step ahead of the police and the taxman.

There’s been another SolarWinds hack. The hackers exploited a previously unknown flaw in two of its programs to go after “a limited, targeted set of customers.”

SolarWinds have said it’s “completely unrelated” to last year’s attack by alleged Russian spies.

Industry experts think ID checks could help crack down on online abuse.

They’re saying social media companies must start requiring users to verify their ID when opening an account to end any idea the platforms are “consequence-free” places.
