The 90s are calling: Tamagotchis are back and better than ever in new smartphone app

Just when Stranger Things had everyone convinced that the 80s were in again, the 90s came calling, bringing with it chokers, Doc Martens and perhaps the most loved toy of the twentieth century: Tamagotchis.

That's right, today, Tamagotchis make their return to your pockets, except this time, they’re on your smartphone.

Relive your childhood by downloading the free ‘My Tamagotchi Forever’ app for a hyper-pixelated version of your favourite childhood creatures, complete with a Pokemon go-esque feature that allows you to explore Tamatown and interact with other Tamagotchi users.

But old Tamagotchi users will hardly recognise their favourite pastime after its three-dimensional facelift. Now, you can customise your creature’s outfits, bathe it, clean up after it and even tickle it, if all else fails.

This isn’t the first time Tamagotchi has attempted a comeback. Bandai, the company responsible for the famous 90s toy, released special edition Tamagotchis last year to mark its 20th anniversary. And this isn’t even Bandai’s first attempt at smartphone app, either – the company came out with ‘Tamagotchi Classic’ in 2015, which was just an exact replica of the original Tamagotchi’s graphics and functions.
