Thousands of school children have pledged to pass on their internet skills to adults who have never been online in their lives.
Although 92 per cent of the UK has access to broadband, there are still over seven million adults who have never been online, so BT and extracurricular activity charity The Transformation Trust are recruiting “digital champions”.
Since the scheme began in 2012, 20,000 young people aged 11-19 have signed up.
And this week sees the launch of the 2014 drive to recruit further BT Digital Champions to help get over 20,000 adults learning basic computer and online skills, such as searching with Google.
Londoner Hannah McInally, 15, is one of this year’s digital champions, and taught her grandmother Kathleen McInally how to use the internet.
Hannah said: “The best part of the experience has been that it has brought us closer together.”
