Deadpool: Five times the 2013 video game was funnier than the movie

There's no doubt that Deadpool, the new film starring Ryan Reynolds, is brilliant – and audiences agree, with its $300m opening weekend smashing box office expectations.

While there was no 'Triple A' game to coincide with its release, that’s because a full-blooded Deadpool title was released a little over two years ago – now potentially gathering dust on the shelves of those who bought it.

At the time, it received lukewarm reviews – with critics praising its humour and Nolan North's interpretation of the masked anti-hero.

The gameplay was less well received, often seeing the merc with a mouth tackle wave upon wave of samey-looking enemies, broken up with the odd fourth-wall-breaking cut scene.

However, playing through the game after watching the movie leads to a different experience entirely. In fact, for those who loved the flick, playing through the aging title is more than enough to satisfy immediate requests for a sequel.

Whereas the movie explored Wade Wilson's transformation into the loud-mouthed assassin, the game sees Deadpool in full flow. He's no longer getting used to himself, his horrific appearance or his tight spandex costume.

And, this being a video game, the level of ridiculousness – exploited so well in the movie – is allowed to evolve to the next level, far beyond what would be conceivable in the motion picture. A bit where the video game budget is cut – leading to the graphics turning retro – is a particular highlight.

The game even features some brilliant cameos, and one stand-out scene involving a particular X-Men member – made even funnier given the constant references to him in the motion picture.

But don't just take our word for it, sit back and watch our favourite bits of Deadpool.

Better yet, dust off your copy and give it one last hurrah. He'd appreciate it.

Oh – and as anyone who’s seen the film will expect, be warned that there’s plenty of gore and swearing.

After Deadpool finds himself dangling from his intestines in a mine, he soon severs them and ends up landing on top of a solider.

Half-way through his rescue mission, Deadpool sparks up a conversion on 'Twert'... only to find the rescue hasn't quite gone to plan.
