The notification centre, for instance, lets you see all your emails, calender entries and other key information in a bar at the side of the screen, and it's incredibly useful - even after a week, I'm addicted.
The Messages app also brings the Mac much closer to Apple's mobile devices, letting you easily message owners and send them pictures and other files - effectively bringing text and picture messaging to desktop computers.
However, it is the previously iPad only apps such as notes and reminders that are a real revelation in just how easy to use Apple can make technology. Notes, for instance, seamlessly syncs anything you write across all your Apple gadgets, making them available easily wherever you are.
Mirroring is also a jaw dropping innovation, letting you wirelessly transmit whats on your computer screen onto a TV, and is incredibly useful for watching films at home, or giving presentations.
However, its also great for games, and using the new game center application for Macs, you can even play against iPad and iPhone owners.
The Mac has never really been seen as a gaming machine, but that could all change now as Apple has effectively opened the floodgates for the thousands of firms who created small, easy to use games and apps for the iPhone and iPad to bring them to the Mac easily and cheaply - particularly as using mirroring you can play them on your living room TV.
As Apple gains ground in the computer market, Mountain Lion is a huge step forward in persuading those who already have an iPhone that they should get a Mac as well. It will undoubtedly by the catalyst for a lot of switching, and goes a long way to making desktop computers as easy to use as an iPad - and making all of Apple's products work together seamlessly.

iCloud - lets users easily set up a new Mac, and store documents on Apple's servers, which you can then easily access from an iPad or iPhone.
Messages - lets users send text or picture messages for free to iPhone and iPad users. It's very simple to use, and works in exactly the same way as the iPhone and iPad app.
Reminders - lets you create reminders and to do lists on your computer which are automatically transferred to your phone.
Notes - lets you easily store notes across all your gadgets.
Notification Center - gives you an on screen alert every time you get an email or other alert, and also arranges your alerts and diary items into a single panel on the right of the screen you can access at any time by simply swiping your fingers across and onto your computers trackpad.
Game Center - lets you find people to play games with and find new games easily. Users can play against other Macs or iPad and iPhone users.
AirPlay Mirroring - Wirelessly stream what's on your Mac to your HDTV using Apple TV, a pounds 99 box that plugs into your TV.
