Stop undermining your leader, Corbyn backer tells Labour MPs

A senior figure in the Momentum activist group set up to support Jeremy Corbyn today accused Labour MPs of undermining their leader.

James Schneider urged Labour MPs to be “grown up” after they leaked attacks made on Mr Corbyn at a heated internal meeting this week.

The leader’s stance on Islamic State and the Paris attacks came under re-peated attack from his own MPs during the gathering on Monday.

Momentum organiser Mr Schneider said: “If you’re opposing the leadership you can do it in a way which is based on principles and in no way seeks to undermine the overall leadership of the party.

What’s problematic is when what happens in a supposedly private meeting is immediately reported everywhere in a blow-by-blow account. That’s the sort of opposition which is destabilising.”

Tonight Left-wingers are expected to attempt a power-grab in the Walthamstow seat of Stella Creasy, one of London’s best-known Labour MPs. A group is bidding to take control of key local party posts at a meeting tonight.

If successful they could gain control of membership lists giving them direct access to local Labour supporters.
