Debate: the leaders of the three main parties will appear on a BBC Question Time Election Special tonight

With less than a week to go until the polls open for the General Election, the leaders of the main three parties are preparing for one final live TV debate.

Tonight’s BBC Question Time Election Special will see David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg answering questions from a live studio audience.

Staring at 8pm, tonight’s programme will be the leaders’ last set-piece television event before the public votes next Thursday.

Taking place in Leeds Town Hall, the three leaders will appear in turn with half an hour each to answer questions from the audience.

BBC election veteran David Dimbleby will host.

The unusual format was agreed upon after Mr Cameron refused to appear in a standard three-way debate with the other two main party leaders.

Tonight’s debate will be live on BBC One, as well as being broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live and on the BBC website.

Leaders of the minor parties won’t be taking part, but Ukip’s Nigel Farage, Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP and Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood will be appearing in their own half-hour Q&A programmes later in the evening as part of the BBC’s Ask… series on BBC One. These programmes will only be broadcast on BBC One England, Scotland and Wales, respectively.
