PM announces reshuffle changes on Twitter

Several of today’s Cabinet changes were tweeted on David Cameron’s account in what was dubbed the first “Twitter reshuffle”.

Theresa Villiers, Chris Grayling and Jeremy Hunt all had their promotions revealed on the official UK Prime Minister account.

Using the hashtag “reshuffle” for the announcements, the Prime Minister’s office also tweeted: “PM pays tribute to Sir George Young who steps down as Leader of the House of Commons.”

Other ministers used the site to reveal their demotions.

Sayeeda Warsi announced that she was no longer Conservative Party chairman last night by tweeting: “It’s been a privilege and an honour to serve my party as co-chairman signing off @ToryChairman, signing on @sayeedawarsi.”

Her announcement prompted Cheryl Gillan, the outgoing Welsh Secretary, to announce her own job loss. Replying to Baroness Warsi’s tweet, she said: “Signing off @Welsh Secretary too but I agree great privilege to serve in cabinet but can serve party from back benches too.”

She also removed her old title from her Twitter biography.
