There were calls today for a full investigation into the expenses claims of Cabinet Minister Maria Miller after she allegedly claimed more than £90,000 for a second home where her parents lived.
Culture Secretary Ms Miller reportedly claimed the cost of the mortgage and other associated expenses for the property in south London.
Labour MPs today called for an investigation into the claims, which were made before 2009.
Bassetlaw MP John Mann is today making a formal complaint to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and called on the Prime Minister to ask Ms Miller to resign if the allegations are proved to be correct.
Ms Miller has strongly denied the allegations in the Daily Telegraph and said the property has been her parents’ home for “nearly two decades”.
Ms Miller bought the large south London home in 1996 for £234,000. Her parents sold their home in Wales in 1996 and moved to the London property to help with her children, it is explained. Ms Miller became MP for Basingstoke in 2005.
Mr Mann said today: “I think David Cameron should ask her to resign. I am certain there will be a complaint to the standards commissioner about this.”
