But R&B singer Jeffrey Osborne, today said he was “delighted” with the mix-up, even suggesting that he should “hook up” with the Chancellor for a duet. The 65-year-old American joked that they should sing his 1982 hit On The Wings Of Love.

Mr Obama used the wrong name during his speech in Northern Ireland on tax avoidance saying three times that he fully agreed with Jeffrey.

The Chancellor did not correct him but on realising his error at the end of his speech, the US President is reported to have said: “I’m sorry man. I must have confused you with my favourite R&B singer.”

Today Jeffrey Osborne, who has had five gold and platinum solo albums, said he was happy that Mr Obama was a fan. “I was really delighted actually. I was really not aware that he was that much of a fan.

“Tell the Chancellor that when I come over I will have to hook up with him and we will do a duet of On The Wings Of Love or something.”
