Woman killed in Thames boating tragedy named as Charli Brown, 24

A woman who died in a boating tragedy on the River Thames has been named as 24-year-old Charlotte Sophie Brown.

Ms Brown, who preferred to be known as Charli, died in hospital after a boat she was riding in capsized near Wandsworth Bridge on Tuesday.

Emergency services were alerted at about 11.45pm after shouting was heard coming from the river at Plantation Wharf, Wandsworth Bridge.

Police officers from Wandsworth and the Marine Support Unit were scrambled to the scene, alongside the National Police Air Service, the Coastguard, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service.

Ms Brown, who lived in East Finchley but was originally from Welling, and a 29-year-old man were pulled from the water and taken to hospital, and a boat was later recovered from the water at the scene.

Ms Brown was believed to have been on a date with her boyfriend, who had hired a speed boat to take her out on a late night outing on the river, when the tragedy happened.
