Get out the strawberries and cream, it’s that time of year again - Wimbledon is here.
The 139th edition of the tennis championships is taking place at the All England Club from Monday, with Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek looking to defend their singles crowns.
In advance of the tournament, London sweltered during an unprecedented heatwave.
Play at Wimbledon qualifying in Roehampton was suspended for over an hour on Wednesday due to a power outage that caused the tournament’s Electronic Line Calling (ELC) system to fail amid the extreme heat.
But what is the weather forecast for the tournament itself? Will it rain during the opening days? Or will top seeds crash out amid more gruelling heat?
Wimbledon weather forecast
Fortunately, it looks like there will be neither rain delays nor punishing heat during the opening days of the tournament.
The heatwave came to an end on Saturday, but warm weather remains leaving the entire first week in the mid 20s Centigrade and with very little chance of rain.
Sinner will be happy - the reigning men’s champion crashed out of the French Open during a Paris heatwave, but hasn’t lost a match under “normal” conditions since a defeat to Jakub Mensik in February.
However it is forecast that London could see another heatwave beginning on the middle Saturday of the championships which could make conditions uncomfortable for players and spectators.
