Velvet Rolls-Royce Phantom first spotted in Knightsbridge turns PURPLE in dramatic makeover

A Rolls-Royce Phantom which first attracted attention on the streets on Knightsbridge because of its velvet cover has been turned purple in a dramatic makeover.

The supercar, said to be worth about £300,000, was first spotted sporting a stylish covering created by French company Velvet Car outside Harrods in December.

And now the Phantom drophead coupé model has caught the eyes of passers-by again after its owner redecorated it with a purple cover and gold plated trim.

It is believed the customisation could have set the driver back up to £7,000.

But some motoring fans appeared less than impressed with the changes to the classic car.

One Twitter user said: "No class. Great way to destroy the brand."

Another said: "That Rolls Royce looks vulgar".

And one simply wrote: "Tacky".

Last month scores of supercars - some worth up to a million pounds - cruised into London as their Middle Eastern owners arrived in town for their annual holiday.

Arab petrolheads have their supercars shipped over to the capital every year just after Ramadan.

Ferraris, Porsches and Lamborghinis, all from the Middle East, were spotted by car enthusiasts around west London.
