Tiny kittens found abandoned in bin at north-west London park

Two tiny kittens were rescued after being found abandoned in a park bin in north-west London.

A refuse collector found the three-week-old male kittens in Queen’s Park and gave them to a dog walker, who immediately took them to the Mayhew Animal Home.

The kittens, later named Bert and Ernie, were given full check-ups and were found to be healthy and happy.

Zoe Edwards, animal welfare manager, said the ordeal must have been “terrifying” for the tiny felines who should have still been with their mother.

She added: “It’s worrying to think what would have happened to the kittens if they hadn’t been found so quickly by the bin man.”

The kittens are now being hand-reared by a foster carer before they are old enough to be rehomed.

Georgina Disney, cat welfare coordinator, said: “As they are sadly without their mother, we need to do everything that the mummy cat would usually do to ensure Bert and Ernie grow into happy, mature adult cats.”
