This stunning artist’s image of a view from London’s planned Garden Bridge came one step closer to reality today after contracts were signed for the scheme’s construction.

The image depicts a romantic view from one of the bridge’s winding paths at the height of spring.

It was also accompanied by a new promotional film seeking to rally support for the bridge as something belonging to all Londoners.

The deal between the trust behind the project and developers Bouygues Travaux Public and Cimolai SpA will complete the bridge’s design and build and plant it for opening in 2018.

Chairman of the Garden Bridge Trust Lord Mervyn Davies said: “We have huge public support for the project and we look forward to working with Bouygues TP and Cimolai and all our partners to make this a special place to be enjoyed by Londoners and visitors in the heart of the city for years to come.”

The film to promote the bridge touts it as an oasis of calm for Londoners who live their busy lives around it.

Transport for London and the Treasury have brought forward £60 million, with the rest due to come from donations.

However, negotiations are still ongoing around acquisition of land for the south landing. Construction is due to commence in the summer of 2016 and to be completed in late 2018.
