Pensioner treated after being hit by lorry

A pensioner was receiving hospital treatment today after being hit by a lorry in north-west London.

The woman, believed to be about 80, was knocked down in Baker Street near its junction with Marylebone Road just after 4pm yesterday.

A Met Police spokesman said she suffered a blow to the head and serious leg injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

The London Ambulance Service sent the air ambulance to the accident, as well as a land crew and two responders in cars.

“The patient who had leg injuries was treated and stabilised at the scene,” said a spokesman. “She was taken to the major trauma centre at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington by land ambulance.

“A doctor from the air ambulance travelled on board with her.”

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Roads in the area were closed in the immediate aftermath of the incident causing rush hour traffic to back up along the ring-road, but re-opened at around 7pm.
