Pensioner suffers life-changing injuries in Sutton crash

A pensioner is in hospital with "life-changing injuries" after being hit by a car outside Sutton station.

The woman, 70, sustained serious leg injuries and was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting.

Brighton Road was shut for several hours as officers investigated the collision, which happened at about 2.45pm.

A large police cordon was put in place, at the junction of Brighton Road and Sutton High Street, with a blue 4x4 vehicle in the centre.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 2.45pm to High Street, Sutton, to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We sent a single responder in a car and an ambulance crew to the scene.

"We treated a woman at the scene for a leg injury and took her as a priority to hospital."
