One in twenty people will refuse to leave the house on Friday according to a new survey which says superstition over the unlucky 13th is on the rise.
A quarter of the 1,000 people questioned for the report into the fear of Friday 13th said they would make changes to their daily routine to try to avoid bad luck, with one in ten refusing to travel.
The survey found that fear of the 13th is higher among young people with almost a third of those aged 18 to 29 taking measures to avoid falling foul of the traditionally unlucky date compared to just one in one-in-seven over 60s.
TV anthropologist Mary-Ann Ochota said: “Even in our age of scientific rationalism many of us are superstitious and have little routines to alter our luck.”
The survey was carried out by Grosvenor Casinos which is launching a competition to give one winner the luckiest day of their lives.
