News | LondonOccupy: We’re setting up more high-profile camps 1/3 Rob Parsons15 June 2012Occupy activists today warned of a fresh wave of protests and more “high-profile occupations” in the capital.Members of the protest group were “recharging their batteries” at a temporary site after being evicted from their Finsbury Square base in the City of London following an eight-month stay. The group today said more occupations were expected in the coming weeks — and that one site, as yet undisclosed, had already been taken over.More than 30 other activist groups from around the world were today descending on St Paul’s Cathedral for a protest against mining firms, dubbed the Carnival of Dirt. Many protesters evicted from Finsbury Square early yesterday have now set up camp in Shoreditch Park.Today they claimed the site was a “stop-gap” while they plan their next move. But Occupy spokesman Ronan McNern said the three-hour eviction from Finsbury Square could pave the way for “different forms” of protest. He said: “I wouldn’t rule out more camps. In the next few weeks there are a number of projects. I would say there are more high-profile occupations coming but there needs to be more energy built for that to happen."I know that somewhere has already been taken so it is a matter of when it is going to be announced.”MORE ABOUTCathedralsChurchesCitizenshipDemonstrationsEmploymentEnergyFestive Events (including Carnivals)IslingtonMiningShoreditch
