New indoor parkour centre up and running

Britain’s first indoor parkour centre has opened in east London.

The new centre — at Trinity Buoy Wharf — hopes to act as a national hub for the sport, also known as freerunning.

Parkour Generations, in the Grade II-listed Chainstore building, will offer membership for unlimited use or on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Freerunning has become a popular urban pursuit thanks in part to films such as Bond’s Casino Royale.

Director of Parkour Generations, Dan Edwardes, said the opening is a “huge step” for the sport in Britain.

He added: “The centre has been designed to ensure that we are able to offer a world-class experience, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming the entire parkour community, including those totally new to the discipline, as well as fitness enthusiasts looking to develop truly functional capabilities, to the Chainstore over the coming months.”
