The ballot results for the 2027 London Marathon are being released on Thursday.

Nearly 1.4 million people from the UK and around the world entered this year’s ballot, with tens of thousands set to receive the good news that they have got a place.

Last month, it was announced that the 2027 event will be a double marathon, taking place over the weekend of April 24 & 25.

That means 100,000 people will be able to take part in the event - smashing the record 59,830 people who took part in 2026.

Everyone who entered the 2027 ballot was automatically included in a random draw for both days, and the results were being sent by email to all applicants over the course of Thursday.

Some applicants who were lucky enough to get a place have taken to social media to share the news.

Meanwhile, unlucky runners voiced their disappointment after being told they has missed..

One person wrote on X: “Look at that. Almost right on queue. Must be about 15 years on the trot I’ve been knocked back. And yet some people have got in 2 or 3 times.”

Applicants have been told to contact London Marathon Events if they have not received their result by 9am on Friday.

It left thousands facing an anxious wait to learn if they will be among the 100,000 taking part in the two-day event.

One hopeful said they felt “so sick waiting” to find out the result of their application.

Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, said: “The 2027 Double TCS London Marathon will be a weekend of celebration like no other in history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 100,000 people to take part across the two days, with 45,000 taking part on Saturday and 55,000 on Sunday.

“We know there’s a record number of people eagerly awaiting today’s results. For those who are successful, their exciting journey to the 2027 Double TCS London Marathon begins now.

"For those who didn't get a place in the ballot, you can still be part of the TCS London Marathon by applying for one of the charity places – which, for 2027 only, includes the chance to run on the Saturday.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity to take part across two days and we can’t wait to welcome 100,000 people to the streets of London next spring.”
