Man, 38, dies following bus crash in north London

A 38-year-old man who was hit by a bus in north London last week has died, police confirmed today.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was crossing High Road in Finchley on Tuesday morning when he was hit by the out-of-service 134 bus. He was left in a critical condition but died two days later.

Transport for London said last week it had launched an investigation into the crash. Scotland Yard did not make any arrests following the collision, which detectives believe happened after the man stepped off the footpath and into the road.

TfL's bus chief Mike Weston said: “At 7.29am on August 25, an out-of-service, route 134 double decker bus, operated by Metroline, was involved in a collision with a pedestrian in Finchley High Road, N12, on a flyover section of the North Circular Road. There will be a full investigation into the incident.”

More than 100 people have been taken to hospital this year after being injured on or by Metroline buses. This latest victim is Metroline’s third fatality this year, and the 10th person to die in 2015 following a bus crash on the capital’s streets.
