Mystery of lost kitten found in electricity pipe 45m below the ground

A kitten had a lucky escape after climbing into a three-mile electricity pipe 45 metres below the ground - but now animal home workers have no clue where it came from.

The tiny creature was found stuck down the pipe, which runs from Hackney in east London to St John’s Wood in north London.

It was rescued by maintenance workers by the Old Sorting Office in St John's Wood, after men who were working on the electricity pipe heard the kitten meowing.

The brave little cat had a lucky escape, as the wires running along the pipe were not live with electricity as it was undergoing maintenance.

The men managed to find the kitten and lift it out to safety, before taking it to The Mayhew Animal Home, where staff have launched an appeal to find its owners.

The pipe stetches for such a distance and has so many access points that staff at the Kensal Green charity don't know how far the kitten has travelled, and whether the creature started its journey in Hackney, Haringey, Islington, or Camden.
