'JFK and Jackie' spotted driving through London

Londoners were left scratching their heads today after they spotted what looked like former American president John F Kennedy and his wife Jackie driving around the capital.

The couple were sitting in the back of a Lincoln Continental, the same car JFK was riding in when he was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.

The woman in the back of the motorcade was even wearing a replica of the distinctive pink suit Jackie Kennedy wore on November 22, 1963 - the day the president was assassinated.

Tia Cox and her colleague rushed out of their office to see the spectacle.

She told the Standard: "We work by Waterloo Place and someone downstairs let us know that there were classic cars out front.

"We often see filming outside but were a bit intrigued and so popped out for a moment to find ‘Jackie and John Kennedy’ across the road in a Lincoln and Buick, with outriders dressed like American motorcops from yesteryear.

"We didn’t see any film cameras, so I assumed it must be for a promotion for perhaps the time travel series based on the Stephen King book 22.11.63. We thought we’d just have a quick look but they were there for ages.

"The Lincoln seemed to have engine trouble, as they popped the hood, but ‘JFK’ kindly smiled and waved whenever anyone approached him with a camera or phone. Eventually a woman with a motorscooter said they were ready to go.

"Somewhat amusingly (if not gruesomely?), as they drove off, someone called out something like ‘mind your head!’

"I imagined that the petrol fumes from the old cars would get him first; they made us feel heady just standing there.

"Someone watching said it seemed a bit sick, presumably thinking they were just restaging the assassination, but the crowd that slowly gathered were clearly pleasantly intrigued.

"Personally, I love how you never know what you will come across in London; there are so often remarkable surprises, although we Londoners usually don’t bat an eyelid and just walk past. But it all brings interest to the day!"

Dozens of Londoners also took to Twitter to share their pictures.

John Lubbock ‏posted: "Someone's been doing some excellent cosplaying as JFK in London today."

While Amy Williams tweeted: "I'm in London, in 2016 (yes?) but LOOK Jackie O and JFK. Have I Quantum Lept?! OH THE RESPONSIBILITY."
