Tricycle Theatre evacuated during Gone Girl screening as fire tears through kitchen next door

An investigation was today launched into the cause of a fire that forced an evacuation at a London theatre and cinema complex.

More than 400 people fled the Tricycle in Kilburn High Road as fire crews tackled the blaze in a kitchen above a neighbouring medical centre last night.

The road was closed for 90 minutes as firefighters battled smoke and flame.

Station Manager Sam Kazmanli said: “Around 400 people were evacuated from the theatre and cinema on the upper floors of the building as a precaution but our crews worked very quickly to stop this fire from spreading and to contain it to a kitchen on the first floor.”

Youth worker Juliet Styles was in the cinema when the area was evacuated by firefighters.

She tweeted: “Just got evacuated midway through Gone Girl, bloody freezing and I want to see the end.”

London Fire Brigade said it was called at 9.40pm and the fire was under control by 11.10pm.

Police said the fire was not suspicious and the fire service is investigating the cause.
