Murray wrote in his column today: “I don’t know if a switch went off in his head some time last year, but to go from being ranked below 700 to 91 in the world and playing Roger Federer on Centre Court is very impressive, and it only happens through hard work.
“Dan certainly won’t be the favourite against Roger but he can cause him problems and make it interesting.”
Tennis fans braved the rain and camped overnight for a chance to get a Centre Court ticket.
Fran Crowcombe, 19, a geography student from Oxford, and Tamsin Brown, 20, from Richmond, North Yorkshire arrived at 6am yesterday.
Ms Crowcombe said: “We are here to see Federer v Dan Evans. I think it will be a good match as he is English and the atmosphere will be electric. We are super excited to be here. It’s so good to have two Brits on Centre Court in a week.”
Rebecca Broomfield, 25, a project manager who lives in Clapham Junction, said: “It’s super exciting to have another Brit playing Federer on Centre. We have Court One tickets but it’s raining so we might not see anything. We will watch Evans on the mound.”
