A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Fire crews were called to deal with a small basement fire at the Royal Albert Hall this evening.
“The fire damaged an electrical unit in a basement area of the concert venue and around 3,500 people were evacuated as a precaution. Two men were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.”
“Two fire engines and around ten firefighters from Knightsbridge and Kensington fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
A spokesman for the Royal Albert Hall said: “Customers who purchased tickets directly from the Royal Albert Hall by telephone or online need take no action: we will contact you with information about how to obtain a full refund on your tickets.
“Customers are kindly requested not to ring the Royal Albert Hall Box Office or switchboard numbers as we are working to resolve the incident and therefore the number of lines available is reduced and calls are unlikely to get through.”
He said a further announcement would be be made on the “scheduling of events” due to take place at the Albert Hall today.
