Charing Cross fire: Dramatic video shows blaze rip through market by station

This is the moment a fire ravaged a market next to Charing Cross station.

The blaze, which broke out around 9pm on Sunday, shut down the station's Villiers Street entrance to the station after the flames took hold of a group of market stalls next to the ticket office.

Four engines and 20 firefighters brought the blaze under control as it tore through the stalls.

Footage captured by Tom Williamson shows huge bright white flames burning against the sound of shattering glass.

Witness Kevin Hoare, a 43-year-old electrical fitter,who witnessed the fire, said people were told to leave the station by the nearest exit after alarms sounded.
