Daughter braves flames and smoke to save her mother from fire

A young girl braved flames and smoke surrounding her mother’s bed to wake her up and escape a house fire.

Both were able to escape the building before fire tore through the first floor of the house in Ilchester Road, Dagenham, yesterday evening.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to the scene at 11.40pm.

Fire investigators said there was no smoke alarm fitted in the property and the girl “undoubtedly saved her mother’s life”.

The pair were treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service.
