Cricket boys hit by tree recover

Two nine-year-old boys who suffered serious head injuries after a tree fell on them at a cricket club have made a miraculous recovery.

Lewis Gaston and George Roberts were today pictured with former England fast bowler Alex Tudor — the coach at Spencer Cricket Club, where the boys were hit by a falling lime tree as gales swept the country — on the club’s website.

Gaston fractured his skull and was not breathing after the incident last weekend but Tudor, who visited the boys at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, said the pair were doing well.

He said: “It’s great to see the lads up and about. We were all really worried about them but it looks like they are both making a great recovery. I’ve had so many messages of support from clubs and players around the world and I wanted to pass them on to the boys.”

A third child, Aidan Oakley, also aged nine, suffered leg injuries.
