Crêperie calls truce in pub row

A feud between a crêperie and pub in Hampstead has reached a truce after the neighbours spent weeks at loggerheads.

Elaine Loughran, landlady of the King William IV in Hampstead High St, and Edward de Mesquita, owner of La Crêperie de Hampstead, had called in lawyers in a row over a walk-in fridge and storage facility, which are used by the crêperie but are in the pub’s garden.

But Mr de Mesquita has backed down, despite the pub’s freeholder confirming his right to have the equipment in the garden. He said: “We’re there within our rights but I don’t want years of litigation.”

The crêpe stand will remain on the pavement next to the pub but Mr de Mesquita will no longer use a small kitchen area and fridge.
