Commuters in north London were left overjoyed as Tufnell Park Tube station reopened two weeks early.
The station had been closed since June last year while Transport for London replaced the station’s lifts and refurbished the ticket hall.
The Northern Line station was due to reopen in two weeks’ time, but Tube passengers were left delighted after discovering it had reopened ahead of schedule.
One Twitter user posted: “I think #tufnellpark station being reopened is the best news I’ve heard in a while. FINALLY. I will miss you Kentish town…”
Samatha D Sherratt said: “TUFNELL PARK STATION IS OPEN! IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY.”
And Sarah Brown Cooper added: “As if today couldn’t get any better…Tufnell Park tube station is finally OPEN! Ahh! Thank you @Tfl!! No more running back and forth!”
Gareth Powell, London Underground’s director of strategy, said: “I thank customers for their patience while this complex work took place.
“The new lifts at Tufnell Park are quicker and more reliable, making journeys at the station easier and more comfortable.”
