Board Game café breaks through £10,000 Kickstarter goal

London’s first board game themed café is on track to open this autumn with a revamped interior after surpassing its Kickstarter goal.

Supporters of café Draughts donated £12,806 in just six days since launching the campaign - leaving the café’s founders “amazed.”

“I was talking with Nick [Curci, Draughts co-founder] that when we hit the button to launch, I had no idea what would happen,” said co-founder Toby Hamand.

They initially wanted to raise £10,000, but achieved this on Tuesday morning. Donations have continued to pour in since then.

Mr Hamand said they hadn't had time to enjoy the success as there is a lot of work still to do before the launch.

Draughts is to open under the railway arches in Acton Mews, near Haggerston Overground station.

The Kickstarter funds will be used to add to the café’s selection of games, buy customized table tops and improve the venue’s interior.

The pair landed on the venture after seeing a similar business success in Toronto.
