Blackfriars exploding pavement injures woman in Tudor Street

A woman has been rushed to hospital after a manhole cover exploded in the City this afternoon.

Police and fire crews were called out to the electrical fire on Tudor Street in Blackfriars, shortly after 1pm.

A woman was injured at the scene and taken to hospital. Her condition was described by police as not life-threatening.

Witness John Vickers said: “I heard a loud sound, along with a flash. I ducked behind a van and then came back out once I was sure it was just the one explosion.

“The woman seemed to have hurt her arm. One bloke ran towards the explosion, other people seem to stop and watch.
