Mrs McKinley insists his role was just “general maintenance”, helping look after her children and dogs, shopping, driving and security. At the High Court last year, Judge Nigel Gerald rejected Mr Patrick’s claim, saying there was no evidence he had done unpaid work, and that their relationship fizzled out by the end of 2008, although they got back together sporadically and Mrs McKinley was drawn to him “like a moth to a flame”.
