Angry West Ham fans stranded as Stratford station evacuated

Hundreds of football fans were left stranded after Stratford station was evacuated this evening.

Annoyed rail users took to Twitter to complain.

Sarah Parsley said: “My husband and son are now stuck outside Stratford after watching West Ham and they have evacuated it.”

Andy Walton said: “Saturday afternoon shoppers plus West Ham home game is not a cool time to suddenly shut Stratford station. Carnage.”

Passenger Meg told the Standard: "All they said was we had to leave the station, no reasons given.

"All we were told was to get a bus, no directions. Everyone is just pushing and shoving to get a bus to get home."

Another Twitter user, Louise, said: "Stratford station on shutdown just makes everything even more ridiculous with the stadium".

Others called the overcrowding "unsafe".

In a tweet Transport for London said the evacuation was caused by overcrowding. The station reopened at around 6.10pm, around 20 minutes after it was evacuated.

A spokeswoman for TfL said: "Normal service has now resumed."
