A Metropolitan Police officer has had charges of coercive control and animal cruelty dismissed.

PC Chris Eckford-Soper, 41, was accused of being “physically, mentally, and financially controlling” towards his partner while they were together, between August 2021 and October 2022.

The officer was also alleged to have struck a cat and the dog, sat on them, and withheld food for the animals.

He had also been accused of ill treatment of a child.

However all four charges were dropped at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, March 20, after the prosecution offered no evidence to support the allegations.

Prosecutor Matthew Dalton: “The decision was made following a comprehensive review.

“The contents of the complainant’s diary heavily undermines the prosecution case.”
