Cheap and friendly, Berlin is stuffed with more culture (high and low) than almost anywhere in Europe. Now is the time to visit, with €1.3 billion being poured into creating Museum Island, the biggest complex in the world, and another five national museums being redeveloped. Those in the know predict Berlin is entering a period of 1920s-like hedonism.
