The wider seat also calls for larger in-flight entertainment for mid-seated passengers, which are comparable to those offered on business class. According to Apex, the seat cushions are also washable reducing maintenance costs.
However, it's still just an idea - the US Federal Aviation has yet to approve the design, and it won’t fit every aircraft. The 'Stagger Seat' only works with an odd number of seats.

This isn't the first time Molon Lobe Designs has introduced solutions to aid in-flight comfort.
The company unveiled its “Side-Slip Seat” design in 2013, which is designed to shift up and over the middle seat providing more aisle space for passengers as they board the aircraft. According to the CEO it’s already passed its initial crash tests and is expected to be certified and installed on planes by the end of this year.
As for the Stagger Seats, Mr Scott told Wired, they are hoping to install them in the next two years on a variety of carriers.
So until it’s approved, take advantage of online check-ins and book your seat from home, so you can avoid those middle seat surprises.
