During the Norwegian winter the sun rises at 9.30am and sets around 4pm but remains hovering protectively over the horizon, suffusing the landscape with a per-manent pink haze. The next afternoon, after a full day's skiing, we spent our precious final hour of daylight walking past the main drag, with its ski shops, pizzeria and local pub (complete with acoustic minstrels covering Bruce Springsteen classics), on to the cross-country trails which continue for miles, encircling Trysil Mountain.
