Some-Fin different this winter: the Arctic Snow Hotel

Seeking out those pesky Northern Lights is the winter pastime for some of us. To maximise your chances of sighting them, should they show, position yourself near the Arctic Circle (where there’s less chances of cloud or pollution to obscure them).

Opening today are 15 glass roof igloos, part of the Arctic Snow Hotel (like the Ice Hotel in Sweden, it has ice rooms and an ice chapel) in a rural area near the Arctic Circle (26km from the capital of Finnish Lapland, Rovaniemi). Unlike traditional igloos these are completely insulated with thermal glass and heated floors, twin beds and a bathroom. Guests will have access to the hotel’s facilities with three restaurants, including an ice restaurant, saunas, an outdoor Jacuzzi and hot tub, as well as activities from snowshoe hiking to ice fishing and ice sculpting.
