Richard Branson’s love of a PR stunt is well documented (balloon rides not withstanding). However, news of the re-opening of Necker Island reveals guests can follow suit with a new zip line strung from the Great House down to Turtle Beach.
Branson has described the new Great House as “like the old one on steroids”, sharing the Balinese style of the original, with table lamps made from Balinese wine pots joined by eclectic items picked from all over the world — ostrich egg lampshades from Cape Town and Jerusalem stone floors. One of the few items saved from the fire which ravaged the property two years ago is a table seating 24, now preserved on the roof terrace with views of the Caribbean, Atlantic and neighbouring islands.
For exclusive use, nine bedrooms in the Great House and six individual Bali Houses dotted around the island can be hired, sleeping 30 adults in total, plus a bunkroom in the Great House that sleeps up to six children.
