This pop-up above The Owl & Pussycat pub in Shoreditch serves one cut of steak: the flat iron (£10), taken from the shoulder. Go for triple-cooked fries and baked aubergine as sides, and sip on a potent jam-jar cocktail. It’s only got a couple of days left to run, so make haste.

Brasserie Zedel

This fabulously over-the-top room — all marble pillars, gold leaf and extravagance — is home to a good-value, Parisian brasserie-style restaurant. You can get a great meal here without breaking the bank, with starters from £2.25, wine from £3 a glass, and the delicious onglet (aka hangar steak) for just £10.95.

If you’re a meat lover, make the trip to Bermondsey to visit this Argentinian restaurant. Expect well-aged, corking great steaks (from £18.50 to £24.45). If you’re really, really hungry, try the crazy meat feast, which includes sausages, cheese and black pudding as well as steak (£24.50 per person). Leave room for the empanadas, too.
