The Crush: Jared Leto (et al)

Jordan Catalano (aka Jared Leto) was the dyslexic, hippie heart-throb we lusted over in My So-Called Life, which was like, literally, sooo our life in the mid-1990s.

Around the same time, Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) was the good-guy film geek in Dawson’s Creek we wished was our boyfriend, and not infatuated with that mopey Joey Potter (where is she now, eh?). But before all that was Zack. Played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar the golden-haired star of Saved By The Bell’s name alone can still evoke inappropriate feelings in women of a certain age (though even pop foetuses Little Mix have recently professed their love).

Jordan, Dawson and Zack taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and casual sex, and we have been following the actors’ careers keenly ever since. Leto, the most successful (rock band, arty films), is currently playing a transsexual with HIV and though we wish we could be more loyal to our 16-year-old selves, the lack of eyebrows and his protruding ribcage mean he no longer tops our trio of teen idols. When the bell rang once and for all for Zack, Gosselaar disappeared into obscurity, but he popped up recently playing himself in US comedy Don’t Trust the B---- in Apt 23. The show stars Van Der Beek, also playing himself, who, despite the forehead, is hotter and funnier than ever. Katie Holmes must be kicking herself.
