The Crush: Eat Like A Girl
Anyone with a camera phone and a couple of synonyms for 'delicious*' can be a food blogger these days.
Most come across as smug at best, sneering and snobbish at worse (see thecriticalcouple.com) but there’s one girl whose blog is the perfect cheese soufflé to her peers’ overcooked macaroni, and that’s Niamh Shields. Eatlikeagirl.com is the Irish ex-pat’s paean to good food, cooked with passion. She lives in London but travels around the world eating and raving about local cuisine.
We love that she’s unpretentious and genuinely passionate. And her recipes are always super easy and, um, really tasty*.
Last year she published a book of recipes called Comfort and Spice and her blog has just been shortlisted for the Food Blog of the Year Award so she’s clearly doing something right. If you want to know the secret ingredient for her success (though we think 'just being a bit nice' must be part of it) head to The Mount Street Deli on Tuesday 8 May between 6-8pm. Niamh will be talking about food, blogging and all things social media.
So if you fancy yourself as a funnier Grace Dent (we doubt it), a cleverer Giles Coren or just a fattie with Instagram… be sure to take notes.
