The Crush: coordinating couples

Nothing makes Crush go weaker at the knees than a coordinated couple — those perfectly put-together pairs who dress as one fabulous fashion unit.

When we weren’t trying to figure out how Rita Ora got herself out of all those straps at the Met Ball in New York, we were lusting after the power partners who showed what a little planning can do. Step forward David and Victoria Beckham. Saaa-wooon! We don’t know where to look. Becks beckons us closer in his Ralph Lauren Black Label tux, then Posh’s minimalist column dress (by VB herself, of course) seals the deal.

Individually their outfits are good-looking; together they are sexy squared, and reduce Crush to an Anastasia Steele-esque quiver. Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis have sartorial symbiosis down to a fine art: he in white tie and tails, she in a cream and black silk dress over trousers. It’s the fashion equivalent of tantric sex and we’re longing for lessons. Also giving a masterclass in matchy-matchy at the Met were Sean Penn and Charlize Theron, whose look is very ‘We are independent spirits but we work as a team (especially when I’m in Dior!)’. Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black, bless them, should take a leaf out of their book as nobody likes a copycat.
