The Crush: Céline Sallette

Ooh la la, this très jolie actress is Crush’s latest Gallic obsession (soz Carla). Say it: ‘Céline Sallette, Céline Sallette’ — the name just slides off the tongue like a buttery escargot.

She’s in our favourite new TV show The Returned, a haunting French drama (if you’ve not seen it, go straight home and watch the first episode on 4oD; the next one’s on Sunday), playing Julie, a nurse who looks like she’s seen a ghost and, well… no spoilers here. We have major respect for an actress who calmly downplays her looks and appears on screen looking authentically unglamorous — Céline does this with a ‘baah… boff…’ Gallic nonchalance (although her character is dressed like a walking Isabel Marant ad, of course).

Mlle Sallette comes from the Tilda Swinton school of otherworldly beauty: all sharp, whippet-like angles, with a perfectly placed beauty spot on her cheek. A little Googling reveals that she scrubs up well on the red carpet, too, and is also partial to an artsy Chanel shoot (tick and tick). Nor is she afraid of a bit of tasteful on-screen nudity, which is always a bonus — for purely artistic reasons, naturellement. Marion Cotillard, watch your back.
