I recently interviewed one of the busiest and most glamorous women I know, Yana Peel, CEO of Serpentine Galleries, for the podcast linked to my new book, How to Own the Room. Her job straddles the worlds of art, fashion and business and so she has to manage her diary with a rod of iron, and has a rule when it comes to social engagements. If an event or an opportunity is a ‘hell, yeah’ (and you feel a ‘hell, yeah’ in your gut), then go to it because you know it’s right for you. But if it feels at all like a ‘hell, no’, then ask yourself: ‘Why am I doing something I don’t really want to do?’ And definitely don’t go. (For an example of a ‘hell, yeah’, I would suggest the event Peel was preparing for as I left her that day: hosting a party for Gwyneth Paltrow at the Serpentine.)
