Gordon agrees about the appeal of meeting new people. ‘You can go online to learn whatever you like, but actually being able to interact with others is very attractive.’ The How To: Academy does not yet have its own premises, but will operate out of a number of hired venues, including the Royal Institution, The Gate cinema, Pall Mall clubs, and Viv Guinness’ private studio in Notting Hill. Further down the line, Gordon would like to acquire a permanent base, ideally with a capacity of up to 200 people. Gordon, who has teenage children, also plans to target young people: ‘I’m putting on courses that will help teenagers with all the skills they don’t get taught at school,’ he explains. ‘Things like how to write a CV, how to manage your money, budgeting for university, how to network, how to get a good internship.’
